- Trains and guides patrol leaders.
- Gives troop meeting and activity leadership.
- Serves as chairman of the scout progress review.
- Takes over for SPL in his absence.

Appointed Leaders
In this part we consider six appointed boy leaders of the troop all are appointed by the SPL with the Council of the scout master. All are responsible to the senior patrol leader except Dan Chiefs. The term of office of each is set by the SPL and need not be the same for all. Here are their duties trains and guides patrol leaders.
- Helps with leading meetings and activities.
- Serves as the chairman of the Scout board of review when reqnuested by the senior patrol leader.
- Takes over troop leadership in the absence of the senior patrol leader.
- Serves as the leader of the troop's leadership corps at the request of the senior patrol leadersh.
