Requirements January 2014 until Current

1. Discuss the following with your counselor:

What art is and what sone of the different forms of art are
The importance of art to humankind
What art means to you and how art can make you feel

2. Discuss with your counselor the following terms and elements of art: line, value, shape, form, space, color, and texture. Show examples of each element.

3. Discuss with your counselor the six principles of design, rhythm, balance, proportion, variety, emphasis, and unity.

4. Render a subject of your choice in FOUR of these ways:

Pen and ink
Watercolors
Pencil
Pastels
Oil paints
Tempera
Acrylics
Charcoal
Computer drawing or painting

5. Do ONE of the following:

Design something useful. Make a sketch of a model of your design. With your counselor’s approval, create a promotional piece for the item using a picture or pictures.
Tel a story with a picture or pictures or using 3-D rendering.
Design a logo. Share your design with your counselor and explain the significance of your logo. Then, with your parent’s permission and your counselor’s approval, put your logo on Scout equipment, furniture, ceramics, or fabric.

6. With your parent’s permission and your counselor’s approval, visit a museum, art exhibit, art gallery, artist’s co-op, or artist workshop. Find out about the art displayed or created there. Discuss what you learned with your counselor.

Scouting Memories Project

History

Scouting has undergone considerable transformation in recent years. Once known as an organization for the development of life skills, character and civic duty in young males across America and then internationally, the BSA brand is now all but put to rest.

The Scouting Memories Project works to preserve the history and memorabilia of scouting for years to come. If you have something to share with the community, we welcome your contributions!

The web pages of the Scouting Memories Project (SMP) provide access to descriptions and digital copies of photographs, memorabilia, oral and video recordings of Scouting events and activities.

The web pages contain some content that may be considered prejudiced, stereotyped, or offensive. SMP’s records span the history of the Scouting Program, and it is our charge to preserve these materials and to make them publicly accessible as part of the historical record. We take seriously our responsibilities in preserving and cataloging such material in its original format and in providing access for research and educational purposes.
