Requirements January 1957 until June 1972

1. Name three breeds of draft horse and two breeds of light horse, and give the country of origin of each.

2. Name and give the relative merits of four leading breeds of dairy cattle.

3. Name and explain the color markings and characteristics of five different breeds of beef animals.

4. Tell the requirements for the successful and profitable production of beef on a farm.

5. Describe how hogs age made profitable.

6. Name four leading breeds of sheep and describe them.

7. Demonstrate one first aid requirement in connection with farm animals.

This merit badge may be earned as a 4-H’er by completing a club project in that subject or as an FFA member by meeting these requirements through the FFA - supervised farming program.

The web pages of the Scouting Memories Project (SMP) provide access to descriptions and digital copies of photographs, memorabilia, oral and video recordings of Scouting events and activities.

The web pages contain some content that may be considered prejudiced, stereotyped, or offensive. SMP’s records span the history of the Scouting Program, and it is our charge to preserve these materials and to make them publicly accessible as part of the historical record.
